I’m all too familiar with weakness.
Over the last several months, I’ve been working on recovering from a knee injury. For a while, walking hurt. Forget loading up a barbell, I couldn’t even bend my knee without pain.
Once I recovered enough to start moving again, it wasn’t my knee that hurt. It was my pride.
I was weak.
My livelihood consists of helping people develop strength. And there I was, too weak for the most basic body movements.
But I’m not the only person that’s felt weak—physically or otherwise. Everyone does, right? It doesn’t matter how super you may be, you still have your Kryptonite.
It’s okay, though. Because I’ve realized something…
Weakness is a good thing.
It shows us the path to become stronger. And when we learn to improve upon weaknesses, we discover how to unlock our true strength. Then you can accomplish anything, because true strength extends far beyond the physical. It carries over into every facet of your life.
That’s why I love fitness.
Losing fat or building muscle is cool. But they’re merely nifty side effects to unlocking true strength. And that’s what fires me up. As a coach, I’ve help hundreds of people tap into their full potential.
Developing true strength is what does it. Every time.
The Path From Fit to Strong
Years ago, I was a distance runner. And I ran my first long-distance race, a marathon, in Santa Barbara.
It was the first of what I thought would be many races. I identified as a runner. It helped me feel fit, which I loved. And I was good at it.
But The Santa Barbara Marathon was my last long-distance race.
Leading up to the race, I did nothing but run. After the race, I started getting back into weightlifting. And discovered a bitter reality—I could run for days, but I was weak.
I may have been fit, but I wasn’t strong.
I wanted to be strong.
That desire took me on a journey that changed my life. It can change yours too.
It all started with a workout I tore out of my favorite fitness magazine. I can remember how excited I was to start the program. And it worked—pretty well, at least. Even though I didn’t look like the guys in the magazine, I got stronger and a bit bigger.
But much like eating tapas—I wanted more.
I had always been extremely cautious in the weight room. In fact, I hadn’t really touched a barbell before that magazine workout.

But once I started, I was bitten by the barbell bug and started studying as much about it as I could.
When classes got boring, I’d hop on the internet and read fitness articles. (Note: I was a history major; class got boring a lot.) I devoured everything I could get my hands on. Before long, I switched majors. I started studying Exercise and Wellness and registered to certify as a personal trainer.
When I started working in the fitness industry, I was lifting and learning more than ever.
It was fantastic.
Then I reached a turning point and everything changed.
What Happens in Vegas…
I attended a fitness business event in Las Vegas called Changing the Game. And my game changed.
The event gave me the chance to meet the writers I’d spent years studying. The schedule was full of hands-on demonstrations and an unbelievable speaker lineup.
In Vegas, I learned about strength from the best in the business.
Before Vegas, I wasn’t weak by any means. But after Vegas I started using the techniques that developed true strength.
It changed my life.
Strength—It’s More Than Weights
For years I struggled with self-confidence and battled with debilitating depression. Then I got strong. Strength did more for me than any therapy or medication.
When you develop physical strength, you find confidence you didn’t know you had.
The stronger you are, the more unshakable your confidence becomes. [Tweet that]
It starts with strength. That leads to confidence. With strength and confidence you can unlock your full potential.
I want you to unlock your full potential.
That’s why I’m taking a second to tell you about Unapologetically Powerful.
