For a lot of people, it seems the most delicious foods are the least healthy foods. This causes a problem when someone is looking to clean up dietary habits.
People feel like they have to sacrifice flavor for health. But it’s not true. This salsa recipe is proof. It’s downright delicious and will fit even the healthiest of meal plans.
You should enjoy the food you’re eating, especially when you are trying to work towards a new fitness goal. Simply put, if you feel like your diet is not something you could sustain (i.e. you simply don’t enjoy the meals you eat), it won’t be successful in the long term.
People will often start a strict eating plan knowing that they will be liberated from their misery when the diet ends a few weeks down the road. They proceed to try to “eat clean” (which is a term that I use speaking very generally) for weeks. For a lot of people, this simply tastes like eating cardboard. In spite of the lack of flavor, a lot of people will be diligent/grin and bear it until the day that their diet “ends.”
“Huzzah,” they think, “I made it. Now I’m a few pounds lighter and my diet is over. Who wants cake? I’m buying.” Before long, they wind up back where they started before they went on their “cardboard” diet.
It makes for a vicious cycle, really. After putting the weight back on, people will often decide to go back to what worked before – the “cardboard” diet and they start the cycle all over again.
Break the Cycle
You have the power to make this cycle stop, people. Just say no …to cardboard. There are so many ways to go about crafting a healthy diet that you enjoy, and enjoying your food is crucial in seeing lasting/sustainable body transformations.
If you know me at all, you know I am big on cooking, which stems from me being a fan of delicious flavor. *Side note for anyone who knows that reference: I owe you a pineapple upside-down cake* So, I have a recipe to share. It is a recipe for green salsa that bursts with delicious flavor and only requires a few minutes to prepare. My favorite part is the versatility. It will take eggs to a whole new level, tastes great on meats, can be used to make a remarkable vinaigrette for salads, and the list goes on.
Enough Talk, Here’s The Salsa Recipe:
Green Salsa:
– 2 pounds tomatillos
– About 2-3 fresh jalapenos (depending on how spicy you like it)
– About ½ of a medium sized white onion
– 1 bunch of cilantro
– Add garlic (preferably fresh), salt, and pepper to taste
Remove the tomatillos from the husk and rinse under cold water. Cut jalapeno and onion into manageable-size pieces (I usually quarter them). Remove cilantro leaves from stems. Place the prepared ingredients (starting with the tomatillos) in a blender and blend until smooth. Add garlic, salt and pepper to taste and blend again to incorporate. That’s it.
Note: sometimes it helps to cut the first few tomatillos into halves or quarters so that they blend a bit better at first. A press for the blender can also be wildly helpful to get the blending started.
Sometimes Delicious Is That Simple
It really is that easy. It makes a blender-full of vibrantly green salsa that tastes even fresher than it looks.
Remember, just say no …to cardboard. Taste and health can and should frequent your plates. Get in the habit of enjoying flavorful and healthful meals and you will see lasting results.
